Peter J. Hughes’ passion for his work seems to be in his blood. His great-grandfather was a first-generation American citizen and successful community pharmacist in central Illinois. Hughes, an alumnus of McWhorter School of Pharmacy and the Orlean Beeson School of Education values the relationships he has built over the years and the opportunities faculty and student interaction brings for his personal and professional life. As Associate Provost for Faculty Success, his primary professional interest is to partner with and to help others grow and get a little bit better every day.  "As Associate Provost for Faculty Success at Samford, I am very passionate about supporting, connecting and working with colleagues from across campus and at all stages of development," Hughes said.  "I believe education is a bi-directional process, and that everyone on the team has something to learn and to contribute for the benefit of others and themselves.”

In his role in the Office of Academic Affairs, Dr. Hughes supports various offices and strategic initiatives including, faculty development (including new faculty orientation, internal grants, promotion and tenure, and Leadership Samford), SamfordGlobal (study abroad and international education), the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, as well as the Office of Faith, Learning and Vocation.
